Santa Lucía is a conservation and tourism cooperative that implements sustainable productive alternatives for the conservation of our forests for future generations and respecting the values ​​of the community in the heart of the Chocó Andino corridor and Nanegal parrish, just two hours from Quito.

To get to Santa Lucía there is a path of approximately 2.5 km long, an approximately 2.5 km long path that visitors travel in about an hour and a half. Mules are used to transport luggage that go through steep bridle paths.

The common visitors at Santa Lucía are from the United States, England, and Germany. Germany appears to be a new market as they obtained the TOURCERT quality community tourism certification from Germany.

Santa Lucía collaborative, 730 hectares of cloud forest protected, 400 species of birds, 300 orchids.

Programs include

Santa Lucía offers research programs with experts who can collaborate with students and researchers and there are rooms that can be used for talks and classes. There is also a training program to learn about the cloud forest for groups of 5 to 20 students who need to learn about the functioning of this ecosystem, biodiversity, forest management, etc. The maximum accommodation capacity is 40 people.

There are guides in the area that are specialized in birds and plants; they are also very good field technicians who help researchers with methods of collecting information.

1. Research in the local forest

For visitors with a research oriented background, there are several opportunities to conduct specific projects or thesis in subjects such as: environmental studies, ecology, forest management, ecotourism.

2. Volunteering.

A hands-on experience that involves participating with the development of skills within the community. They can be English teaching, business related courses, hospitality and sustainable tourism, environmental best practices.
